Friday Roundup ...
I’ve been getting more and more preoccupied this week, thanks to my marathon this weekend, and the need to get myself properly rested, fed, and relaxed. I’m not doing too well in any of those catgories, and taking the boys to the expo today was a test of endurance in itself! They did get to have some fun, but spent most of the time getting squashed in the crowds, or being told to “grab my hand!” over and over again :). Glad that part is over at least. I’ll let you know how it went on Monday … prayers and speedy thoughts appreciated!
Here are just a few links I loved from the last week … I didn’t spend all that much time online for once.
- Karen over at chookooloonks often muses on the beauty of diversity, and specifically own your beauty: imperfection, perception, and why there are no flaws. if you don’t feel gorgeous every day, then read it. please. spied thanks to Kizz.
- The Safe List, and Why You’re Not On It by DaMomma. This one intrigued me, as it’s not the way I personally parent but I totally get and respect it … love to know your thoughts!
- Because it’s that time of year, check out How to Roast Pumpkin Seeds from How To Cook Like Your Grandmother, always a great source for practical how-to’s and traditional recipes. They are truly yummy.
That’s all she wrote, happy weekend!

Wee Play Camp for fellow NYC moms
Jocelyn’s given us some great play tips before, and her classes are fab for the younger set. Check out her summer camp below, it’s during the dog days of August and is a great way to keep the wee ones entertained while you get a bit of a breather! Enjoy …
Wee Play Camp
WHEN: 10am-12pm, Monday-Friday
Week 1 Animal Adventures: August 16-20
Week 2 Fairytale Theater: August 23-27
WHO: Kids ages 3-5 who love stories, characters and play!
WHAT: In this exciting camp, young performers are introduced to acting, improvisation, creative movement and song. We adapt tales from children’s literature and invent our own stories as well! Students create visual art that supports their understanding of character. Both weeks culminate in an open class for family and friends. A stimulating and nurturing environment for the budding artist.
In Week 1: Animal Adventures, we read fables, and the children create animal characters that express their artistic voice.
In Week 2: Fairy Tale Theater, we read children’s fairy tales and interpret characters of heroes, villains, fairies and more!
Summer Theater program for kids (NY-based)
A locally grown arts organization for Brooklyn Youth
Child’s Play NY, a recently established organization that offers year-round intensive workshops for children with an interest in theater, is pleased to announce its newly expanded Summer schedule. Intensives in musicals, play writing, Shakespeare, acting for the camera, and more are now open for registration for children ages 4-10. Designed to build confidence and nurture the imagination, students use creative play to create characters, learn story structure and enhance literacy.
